The Flights to Morocco

The night before our departure I barely slept. I got out of bed at about 8 a.m. having had about 3 hours of sleep, so a stellar start to the trip.

Bryan arrived at my dorm around 9 a.m. and the Uber didn’t pick us up until 9:30. We realized too late that you should reserve an Uber on the first day of spring break, and the traffic was terrible as well as a result, so we were cutting it pretty close arriving at 9:55.

Once our group finished checking in, we scuffled one after another through TSA, occasionally getting our bags pulled off the conveyor belt for further inspection. We noticed those who packed snacks had to get checked, but it didn’t pose an issue, and I was relieved my Clif bars were safe.

We boarded our first flight to Detroit and I immediately knocked out. Suddenly we arrived over two hours later and we stayed in their strange narrow airport for four more hours. I tried getting more accustomed to my camera in the meantime and so I have an overabundance of footage of the airport and flights to Morocco.

The next flight was the big one, Detroit to Paris. I got situated in our middle row seats with a dinner of airplane veggie ravioli watching Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Three or so hours into the flight I attempted to sleep but I was unsuccessful in this cramped space, my schedule was already thrown off and so I only managed to get about three hours, and of course, I was totally out when I finally drifted off so I missed breakfast. Although, the rest was well worth missing a muffin or two.

It’s strange when you realize you just flew to another continent, especially for the first time. I was now in Paris. A historic, world-renowned city I had grown up seeing in movies, and I had to stay in the airport, but at least I got French airport Starbucks, which is of course utterly superior to all American Starbucks I had previously tasted, and I am an avid Starbucks drinker.

After about an hour, it was at last time to board our flight to Morocco. I, of course, slept the entire four-hour flight. Apparently, they served a strange fish dish but I totally missed that. Not sorry I skipped this meal after hearing some reviews from my peers.

Bryan and I accomplished what we set out to do. We listened to Africa by Toto as we landed in Morocco. This has been our goal since the first time we heard about the study abroad in August. It was legendary.
